Offer Negotiation

I received a job offer and was offered the top of the range the company mentioned during the interview. I think this would be a great opportunity, but I'm wondering if it's worth it to try to negotiate salary.

Most definitely! You can ask for higher salary. If they say no, that is the worst. I would approach it with open end and willingness to take the job regardless what happens and I would also let them know. Be grateful and happy and nice. Good luck!

Definitely negotiate! Men always do. The worst thing that can happen is they say no. Be kind, respectful, gracious--and ask for more.

Always worth it to negotiate! At a minimum it will show them you know their worth, set you up for future negotiations, or give you a chance at some other added benefits (pto, etc.) There's no harm in asking. Also consider if the salary meets what you're worth as an employee, besides just being within their "range" (there's usually flexibility, despite what they say). You can use Salary.com to get a range for what you should be making. Asking will also give you an idea of how they handle employee requests, pushback and ideas-- Good luck!

I might also add, if they came back with just added PTO I would have also accepted immediately. If they came back with nothing, I'm not 100% sure what I would have done. But hindsight being 20/20, I'm glad I made the move to this new place, so I would have liked to think I would have taken it anyway.

I would say exactly what Andrea said. I recently accepted a new job and told them I completely understand if that is their max (since I already agreed to move forward when that was mentioned in the first interview), but would they be willing to enhance PTO and I guess they have a strict policy on that because they came back after offered 5K more and I happily took it. But if they come back and say no to all, and you really want it anyway - take it!

Maybe you can negotiate for some other perk and keep the salary that is top of the range.

If this is a job you want...truly want...and they are offering you the top range of what's budgeted, then I would either accept with gratitude or keep looking for that more perfect job...
