Should I worry?

I am job hunting for a senior role in the construction industry for the first time in over a decade. There are many ads and I have been actively applying for about a month. I had my resume professionally written this spring and so far the recruiters I have spoken to said it reads well and highlights my accomplishments. I haven’t gotten a single call back. I have spoken with contacts at some companies with openings and they all seemed to be on vacation but promised to get back to me when they returned. I am new to applying via ATS and worried I am not getting through, my husband swears I am just being inpatient and a month isn’t very long. My current company is facing a difficult time financially and I am worried that I could be out of work before the end of the summer so I am anxious to find something new. Any advice? Should I just reach out to everyone on LinkedIn? There don’t seem to be any local networking events in July/August in my city.

Hi There! I would also look through our jobs page. Employers are pretty responsive on Fairygodboss ;-). We have some great manufacturing/construction firms that would love to hear from you!

I must be doing something wrong, when a i search my area with the job title I am looking for “Construction Executive” or “Construction Manager” I only get jobs in unrelated fields. Does this search work differently than others? A few somewhat related roles came up but in cities far away even with my zip code.

If you do speak to a recruiter, ask them for their feedback. I did that once and it was priceless. Also, have you considered Construction and Materials Strategic Sourcing or Supply Chain. I come across a few of those every month. Make sure you also have all the key words on your resume so they pop up on their searches... software they are using? project management background? agile, etc?

I also encourage to find someone else’s tesune on that position and look at the keywords recruiters use on the job postings.

I am not sure how many companies you have applied to, but if it's just a few and you haven't heard back, then don't get discouraged. I would strongly recommend what others have already offered - leverage your network!!! It's the best way to get jobs. See who is hiring, then head over to LinkedIn to see if you know somebody who is connected and can introduce you to either somebody who can refer you or HR manager or hiring manager. Good luck and chin up!

LadyPele gave great advice. I can tell you I waited over a month before I was contacted on a job. Do your due diligence with keeping track like LadyP said and I think things will come together. It is summer and people are on vacation so a little extra time may be needed.

You can certainly leverage your Linked in network and the site itself in your job search. You can contact the people in your network asking for an introduction to hiring managers/HR. You can also research companies, find someone in a comparable position and ask to connect with the message that you are interested in their company would be interested in their advice. Regarding the companies for which you are waiting for a call back, maintain a spreadsheet of companies, contacts, dates and notes. If someone is out for a week, wait ten days and then reach out again.
