Sometimes, there's no avoiding work trips, right? One year, I think I went on about 20 trips for work while my kiddos were both under 12. To maintain connection with them, I packed the book we were reading and Face-timed them each night to read another chapter before bedtime. I also always brought them home something from my trip that made me think of them - either a purchased gift or something I found along the way in nature. I wanted them to know that just because I was out of sight, they were not out of mind.
Now I have one in high school and one in junior high. I sense a season of work travel coming up again and have wondered how best to handle it.
For those with kiddos (whether younger or older), what do you do to maintain your family connections while traveling for work?
