Good morning. I have a potential employer who checked my references last Thursday. My former supervisor, who is my main reference and also a mutual friend of myself and my potential future employer, said everything “sounded very promising” after speaking with her (potential employer). Here is my dilemma: I am an acquaintance of the potential employer and I desperately need something on paper offering me a job by 1:00PM on October 15th because I have a hearing on my Chapter 13 bankruptcy case that day and if I have no income, the case will be dismissed. If that happens, I will lose my apartment, possibly my car, and my life will essentially fall apart. Without getting into the nitty-gritty and sounding to presumptuous, desperate, or demanding, is there a way to be forthright with my potential future employer and ask for a conditional offer of employment ASAP? She is in human services with people experiencing homelessness, so she would be very understanding of my situation. Is it wise to ask for a conditional offer of employment? If so, when do I ask? If not, what can I do to potentially speed up the offer process without hurting my relationship with my potential future employer? Thanks, FGB geniuses!!
