Advise - Office conflicts

I was part of the hiring process in my organization for the team I am part off. For at least a year the newly hired resources got a long like brothers and sisters. After awhile, I distanced myself to the team for my own reasons. When one of the hired employees left, he ended up telling me all the issues going on with the team. I was completely thrown off, and was also told, two of the people we hired are a couple even before joining the company. She even interviewed the partner - which was a huge integrity issue as she should have opted out of the interview for knowing the person. Also found out no one gets along with this couple... however they do work well. Most of us felt betrayed by these people, and they are known to be negative and always complaining about people around them. They always have been the know-it all and walk around like Kings and Queens of the floor. What to do in this kind of situation? They obviously affect the environment of the people around them at work.

I'm pretty sure it's a policy in my company that they can not work for the same manager or same department. We have had a few situations like that here and they separated them.

Why not turn this into a positive? If they work well and do a good job, who cares if they are a couple outside of work? The whole point is to form and empower your team not make it into a he said, she said environment. Place energy on the positive and you receive positive results. If there is a company policy in place about employees dating, then that is the fault of the company for not addressing it early on. However, if they are in fact a couple they will remain a couple regardless of the company views.

I think they are causing a negative vibe with the rest of team . The person who left mentioned problems. It sounds like that is the reason for the upset.

Traumatized? Please don't do that to yourself!! I can completely understand why they refuse to admit they are a couple. It really isn't in their best interest professionally to do so. And why is it so important to you and your co-workers that they admit it? They didn't owe it to tell anybody, except when she interviewed with the guy and knows him on such as personal level. That was wrong. Otherwise, it's not a betrayal to your or the others in my opinion; that's their private business. So why be so upset because everybody wasn't informed of their personal relationship status?

Yes, she should have been honest. Why would you think that people you interview are related to those 2? I'm confused. LOL

This is a tough spot to be in. Clarification question, were you betrayed by the couple you didn't know was a couple to begin with?
