Lying about job opportunity/ Phone phobia

My mom works at Workforce Central Florida and she recommended me to apply for a position at Dotdecimal, a company which design and delivery treament devices for cancer patients. I looked on the website and found contact information so I sent a message to them. I didn't hear back so I went to company in person. They told me that I have to call and speak to HR. I did today and the HR told me that they weren't hiring. I waited several days to call them because I have a fear of speaking over the phone. I wonder why would my mom lie about a job opportunity. I get extremely nervous over the phone and panic. I don't know what to do.

Check with your mom to see what happened. If the job is still open: Can your mom get you the contact info for the hiring manager? Kudos to you on checking directly with the company!

She can't do that. My mom can only refer me to different jobs and help with my resume. I will just not worry about this job opportunity.

Maybe there is an opening and HR intends to fill it with an internal candidate. Either way, check with your mom in a very casual conversation. "Thanks for mentioning the opening at ______. I call them to get more info about it and they said they didn't have any openings. Do you know more about the job, or who I might specifically contact so I can apply?"

First, I want to applaud you for taking initiative and going to the office yourself and finding out what's wrong. Secondly, I highly doubt your mother lied to you. This is work politics. They most likely hired who they wanted for the role. Companies only post jobs because it's the law.

I do suffer from performance anxiety but I was fine when I was younger doing poetry out loud in high school and dance in front of people. I used to take choir and chorus when I was little. But I don't sing in front of people because I had someone tell me that I sounded horrible also the choir director at one church was racist.

Could you be suffering from a "performance anxiety" when you have put yourself before the public (e.g. clerk/cashier, bank teller, customer service representative, actress, etc) , Perhaps your mother may feel that this fear you possess may be holding you back professionally and limiting your career options. It 's hard when when you feel you can do something ( and probably do it well) and an impediment such as this such surfaces. Maybe she desired to build up a little confidence in you and to show you that your world won't end if you hear the word "no" a few times. It is a bummer and a drag waiting for your opportunity for your "dream job" , but keep looking, applying and prayerfully soon, all the puzzle pieces will fall into place for you. And, maybe the person you spoke to was expecting your call, so he or she may be rooting for you as well! Good blessings to you!

Maybe they were opening a role in the future, but your mom thought it was sooner? I wouldn't say she's lying, maybe misinformed? I know my department has been opening a role for like 3 months now, it's not my leader's fault. It goes through a set of approvals including HR and Finance before it can actually be posted.

Hi there! Have you asked your mom about this? I check .decimals website and they appear to have only 4 open roles. Which position were you looking at? Did you find it as an open role online?
