Working from home: TV or not?

When you are working remotely, do you watch television? I know multiple people who do this and I have no idea how. Thoughts?

When I was working from home regularly (I had a remote based job), I had it on when I was working on mundane tasks but would turn it off and put on music when it was something I needed to really think about it. I also found that putting on a show like a sitcom (i.e. The Office, Parks & Rec, Gilmore Girls, Friends, Community, etc.) that doesn't involve a lot of attention works better and a sitcom you have already seen works the best.

Most of the time I only listen to music and change the playlist throughout the day. I find TV too distracting as I end up wanting to focus on what's on TV instead of focusing on emails or projects. If it's toward the end of the day and I'm wrapping things up, I may put on something I've seen before or ESPN (SportsCenter) to get my daily sports fix.

I listen to podcasts in the morning and have the TV on (typically shows I've already seen or documentaries) in the background.

I would say that 95% of the time I do not watch TV when working at home, however, if I'm working on a task that is repetitive and/or doesn't require absolute focus that I have done that work in front of the TV with shows on in the background that I'm not riveted to but provide a bit of background noise and or interesting things to listen to. I have a really nice home office set-up with multiple screens and a good chair so it's actually more difficult to not work in my office.

Working from home is all about discipline, right? If you can listen to the tv and not allow it to distract you, then it's all good. If it's limiting your ability to do your job, then maybe consider turning it off.

It depends on what I'm working on; sometimes it's nice to have something brainless on to drown out the house noises (I'm a little jumpy).

On slow days I could have the television on low volume - just to keep me motivated but those were rare. I usually have on yoga, meditative music on low volume too. The soothing relaxing and peaceful sound keeps me focused.

I usually find TV too distracting. Sometimes even music with words is too much for me lol! I have some good lo-fi beats playlists on queue for when I really need to focus.
