The small, independent medical practice I’ve been with for 10 years just merged with a larger company. The owner was my boss. She’s stepping away from the practice and I will be the office manager. Because she owned the business, if there were any problems or concerns she’d have to handle them - including weekends and evenings. One time I remember her working until 12am on a weeknight to set up a new phone system at the office. That’s just not something I’m willing to do. I currently work 38-39 hours a week Monday-Friday and want to keep that schedule for the most part. The new company said “keep doing what you’re doing” but I’m suspicious. I can’t get a straight answer regarding expectations of work outside “business hours”. Does anyone have experience with this type of situation? Am I overreacting? Or recommendations on how to get an a straight answer?
