I currently tutor children but want to do something else but not sure what types of jobs I can land at my age of over 60 and recently widowed.
I spent many years homeschooling my own children who are graduated from college and one still in college. So I spent many years out of the work force. I have a BA in business from many years ago. I have to support myself now but also want a change in direction job-wise. Any advice would be greatly appreciated

Don't let your age stop you! It's never too late to make a change. My advice is to brush up on some tech skills if you can. If you'd like to start something new, maybe to a tech or business certificate of some sort. When applying, try not to focus your resume on the dates. Make it just the relevant business experience that you have, plus whatever you do (cert., bootcamp, networking group) up front. Focus on showing what you can offer. You got this!

I recently went through a group coaching program that focused on uncovering your strengths to help you find focus and pursue your true passions. It was really a remarkable process to help me gain clarity and a clear direction. Here's the website for the woman who ran it: https://www.strengths-edge.com/

It might help to explore your interests with a career counselor at one of the universities or junior colleges near you. If you like more insight into you as a person I would seek out a life coach to delve into how you'd like your life to evolve in all fronts. What you connect with, what really sparks interest for you. At this stage of life women like us need to pause and reflect in who we've become and design the kind of life that will fulfill us for the rest of our journey. What made us feel amazing in our 30's are not necessarily the same things that really get us excited now in our 60s.
It will take some time to get to know yourself at this new junction. Coaches are great to help you sort the ambitions, emotions and desires and form a game plan so you gain clarity and don't get overwhelmed with all the details.
Good luck and I am sorry to hear about the loss of your husband.

What is your resume saying about you?

Have you looked into positions within the local school districts? There are usually several unlicensed positions available (paraprofessionals, etc.) that you could be qualified for if you are still interested in working with children.

Consider a network marketing business. You can work it when you have time and if you build a team you can truly create a life changing income. There are many different ones out there. Make sure you research the company and choose one that has products you believe in and use.

Education is a great field for you. You can become a paraprofessional in the classroom. You can work for a tutoring service that employs people like you to help students in school or prep for standardized tests. A career coach can assess your skills and show you how to apply for jobs and network your way into interviews.

You sound like the perfect Branch Office Administrator with my firm. It can be part-time or full-time, close to home, and I think you'll get the same warm fuzzy feelings helping clients. lmk if you'd like to connect and talk more.

Have you thought about mentoring other parents who homeschool? Creating activities & lesson plans? Homeschooling is REALLY on the rise due to remote learning being necessitated by COVID. Although many may return to regular schooling post-COVID, I think many others will appreciate what they can do & the experiences they can give their children. Some sort of consulting may be a great opportunity now. Also look into companies that already do this like K-12. They may want people exactly like you as “on call” type helpers for parents who need more assistance or a boost in their confidence. Your skill set & having kids that attended/graduated from college lends huge credence to your skills as a homeschool teacher. Do not shortchange yourself at all!!!

Caroline, this is a great avenue to explore! In the traditional school setting, many teachers utilized parent helper to lead or assist with activities in the classroom. This would be a great niche market to pull from to create a new workforce of "remote parent helpers."
This would also be a great way to combine a background in business, tutoring, and homeschooling. It's always nice when you can use the culmination of your experiences to create a new path!
