Up your career game with a.... wait for it....therapist!

Stay with me here my esteemed queens! Many may question the connection between furthering their career to consistent work and check-ins with a therapist, but I am here to shout from the roof tops it's worth every penny. In my mid twenties I was a hot emotional mess (really who wasn't at some point in that time period?). I sought therapy, and was promptly diagnosed with chronic depression. Hence began my journey of including therapy as a normal part of my lifestyle. It has become less about managing with medications, and more about a neutral person helping me be the best person I can be . Now 45, I count my therapist as a great resource and tool, whether I'm doing great, struggling with a personal issue, or chewing on wasps about a work situation. I have a standing monthly appointment with my go to "feelings-guru", and working through anything going on. How does this translate over into work? It has massively upped my emotional intelligence game. I have a fierce poker face now, and stopped taking anything and everything personally years ago. I can now pick up on negative trigger communication and know how to appropriately manage my response. It has helped me be one of the best at managing up my ELT and C-suite, quickly interpret non-verbal communication to navigate towards successful work collaboration, and stop being a micro-managing control freak (we're quite unpleasant to work with I've heard). Most companies offer good benefits, and behavioral health/mental health is part of the standard package. Many smart companies also offer employee assistance programs (EAP), and they cover anywhere from 4-8 therapy sessions for free. FOR FREE. Whether you're doing great emotionally, or this WFH has you about to lose your mind, check into your benefits, and just try one session!
