Would you bother asking for feedback just from an application rejection?

I got a rejection today from a recruiter who clearly had read my application and was responding to it vs. a generated rejection. The position was newly posted and on paper I would be a pretty perfect match (and this is not a random job, it's mid/senior-level and somewhat niche). My question is, is it even worth asking for feedback at this stage? I've had a number of applications progress to further rounds so I don't *think* it's an issue of my materials, but this was probably an even better fit (again, on paper) than much of what I've applied to. So I'm curious, but not sure if it's an egregious question for just an application rejection.

I’d go for it! I had one just like this with a company I really wanted to work for and a great fit on paper. They actually responded and gave me a specific reason that made sense.

I would say that asking for feedback will only help further your career options. By asking for feedback you are demonstrating a willingness to continue improving and the information will be helpful to know so you can respond to others who have similar concerns after reading your application. It will also be good to address the specific deficit in future applications to improve your options for employment.

I would absolutely reach out for feedback in the very least. Maybe it was due to covid, maybe it was you being overqualified...maybe it was due to monetary funds....whatever the reason, it will slowly eat away at you without knowing why. Keep your head up and know that the right job WILL be there at the right time. Good luck!❤
