Women only apply when they meet 100% of the criteria

I was thinking about this today. I saw a posting for a job I would love but in my own mind, a 55 year old guy in a sharp suit has this job, not an overweight middle aged soccer mom! But then I realized, guys get ahead because they leap, why shouldn't I leap? Give me your best tips to seem confident and impress the interviewers (two mid 50s guys!) Edit - The interview is tomorrow and virtual

Saw this post today, but your interview was last week! How did it go? Hopefully the previous advice helped!

Be outwardly confident! This includes paying attention to your body language, your eye contact, your tone. This is one reason why men make leaps - they show confidence!

Blend womanly charm with numbers. Employers get qualitative descriptions of people's resume all the time, numbers speak experience, and experience dictate how many mistakes the person overcame. Don't be afraid to apply emotions and attractive gestures to your interviewer, they'll appreciate your flair and confidence.

One of my best interviews ever was me answering every question the two gentlemen asked me in the negative and following up with what I consider the proper way to do things. It was for a software QA lead position. "Would you ever agree to put code into production without testing?" "Would you feel comfortable not having test cases written, approved, and then properly executed?" "Do you find it normal to go 3 months over the estimated project plan?" I finally broke down and asked if I was being punked. I wasn't. I ended up getting the job! For real- know the job, be confident, and have a good idea to give examples of what you have accomplished can be brought up as answers to questions they ask you! (Like if you haven't done a particular skill, I automatically shift it to what I have done that is similar. "While I haven't had the opportunity to train monkeys how to roller skate, in my current position there was a real need to get house cats to wear socks. So I lead a project to learn how to knit, and worked with my colleagues to implement a cat sock training program, etc. So I know I am ready to handle the monkeys.) Good luck on the interview!

Besides the advice mentioned above, be prepared to discuss your quantifiable accomplishments in terms of how they’ll help the new organization. Check out the free practice interview questions on LinkedIn, too. And even better, have ideas on how you’d navigate your first 30-60-90 days on the job. Hiring managers live folks who do their homework and show up as a solution, not just one of many candidates! Got questions? Happy to help.

Go for it! Dress well, stand or sit in a confident posture during the interview. Reframe your self-description to something that makes you feel like the powerful, savvy, seasoned professional you are. Prep for succinct and targeted answers for why you are drawn to the company/role, and how you can add value. Have some questions for them that convey your passion and interest in advancing the company's mission. Be genuinely curious, as after all, you are also interviewing them to see whether it would be a fit. Best of luck you you. And enjoy the process!

In no particular order... 1. Be prepared. Know the company and try to get a feel for the culture. 2. When you're choosing your outfit, go back to that vision of the job. Go in there in a sharp suit - feminine without being over-the-top and, most of all, professional. 3. Speaking of outfit... if you don't have a simple string of pearls, get one ASAP. It doesn't have to be expensive - just simple. There's something about simple pearls that screams power. 4. Relax. Don't stress - it will show. I know that can be easier said than done, but try. 5. To help relax - practice! Don't just sit or stand in front of mirror - get a friend or colleague to help you. Do the mock interviews. Figure out the answers to the tough questions before you're sitting in front of the interviewers. 6. Trust yourself. You ability to ace the interview and to do the job. Trust your experience and dedication - it will show.

You're invited.
