Salary

Hi, So I was hired 2 years ago as an assistant director. My colleague was also hired (similar experiences) at during the same time as an associate director. Are roles have been exactly the same now, are roles are slightly changing but still have the same amount of responsibility. I’m aware that she may get paid more. Is this something I can bring up during my yearly salary negotiation? And if so how should I bring it up without comparing myself and speak on the unfairness?

As part of your annual review, are you given the opportunity to review your job description? If there are suggestions you can offer to revise your job description to more accurately reflect your role and responsibilities, that may go a long way to support your request for a salary increase.

If you want to negotiate your salary at your next session, it shouldn't due to what other people are making. Instead, it needs to be on the merits of your own work as well as what you are going to present that you'll be bringing forward into the company. Outline the benefits of having you there, your accomplishments and what else you can do for the organization. Good luck

This is just my opinion. I wouldn't compare myself with my colleagues but make the case why I deserve to have a significant rise. Every revision is an opportunity to have a dialogue with your manager and make them notice my potential or my desire for a promotion. Your work speaks for you, BUT you have to let them know (colleagues and management) what is your contribution to the company, sometimes we do work that is not well notice but it is important. Every time you have a chance to "show-off" do it, being humble and truthful. Good luck!!!
