How often should I interview?

I mostly like my job but I don’t plan on staying for more than 3-5 years. I’ve been told I should always look for new opportunities...yet I don’t feel like I need to be that active in my job search. Does anyone have experience interviewing while on a job (that you might be at for another year or two)?

I think it's always worthwhile to keep your eyes open to see if there's anything you might like or might fit in with your plans. The nice thing is because you're not planning on moving right away, you can do it casually -- but it always helps to look every so often just in case you may find an opportunity that may suit you better. Plus, any interview serves as good practice and can keep your skills sharpened! Best of luck to you!

I would agree with Rachel--you never know what you may find if you continue your search. It could be the next big thing or help you appreciate what you have even more than you already did. If you do find something that interests you, it could also act as leverage for your current position to approach them for a raise or a new role within the organization. Just keep moving forward!

When I was at my last job, I was approached about roles through recruiters on LinkedIn or other nonprofits when I wasn't really looking, but I decided to interview anyway. In the end, I didn't find a job I liked better than the one I had, and the interviews actually made me appreciate where I was (the culture of trust and flexibility, my teammates, the benefits, etc.). It also helped me keep my resume current and helped me clarify what I care about and what I want my career path to be.
