I'm looking for some perspective here.
In one weeks time, I will be leaving a job I have held for 13 years. This is somewhat of a relief, as the work environment is not great and I have been burnt out and depressed because of it.
Fortunately, I will receive severance and will also be able to apply for unemployment. Also, my spouse is working, so the pressure to quickly find employment is not terrible (yet).
My struggle is this: I don't know what kind of job I want! I am mid- fifties with two teenagers, and have worked as a financial/business/data analyst for 20 + years. Originally I was looking forward to taking some time off, then maybe getting a part time job doing something NOT finance related (working at a supermarket, or using my pastry arts degree somewhere, for example). I was thinking along the lines of finding a job I could do well into my 70s - low pressure, somewhat more social and creative than a cube farm. However, I am feeling pressure to jump right back in to finance of the sake of a good retirement/less money stress overall. In fact, I have a phone interview next week for an analyst position.
If anyone has been in a similar situation, I would appreciate hearing your story. I'm definitely struggling with priorities right now. Thanks in advance!
