Does a Woman have to be the 'B' word to compete in a Mans world?

This comes to mind because many times you hear this is in regards t the business world. My thoughts are.. No. Absolutely not. Let your actions speak for you. I don't believe you need to behave that way to get ahead. Be assertive, be decisive, be dedicated, be open, be willing to learn, but be respectful. Say no when needed, but I believe that goes further than the other. I've personally never been that kind of person. I am however, decisive, assertive, determined but kind. I will say, as a woman, I have never had a car dealer or service dept treat me like a 'dumb little girl'. I am assertive. ask questions, do my research and say NO when needed. Same goes for the business world. You can be the best o both and bring in the qualities that get you where you need to be without making people hate you in the process.

Agreed! I work in IT and I've had to deal with people who don't believe what I'm telling them because I'm a woman. I'm always polite, even if they are not, and continue do my best work. In my current role, I am fortunate to have wonderful managers who have my back when dealing with customers like this and they trust me to handle the situation professionally and also fix the customer's issue. They don't cave under the customer's sexist demands and have actually required customers to apologize when they treated me poorly. While I am polite, I can be rather pointed when I need to be. I've had to do that when I am the customer and someone is being dismissive towards me. I think I get that more for being young than being female though.
