I have worked for the public sector for the last 18+ years.
I have always clashed with the culture because I pride myself on being efficient and effective, something government work is not known for. I have been applying for private positions; however, I never get an interview. I have been promoted three times over the 18 years, and have, independent from my employer, attended training and have received certifications to upskill. Does anyone have any advice on how to transition from the public sector to private?

You usually have more job security, better benefits, etc. at a public job. I'd think long and hard about leaving. Especially if you have 18 years in and maybe would qualify to retire after 20 years. But take your time looking and be sure to review carefully. Private sector is NOT more efficient often, and sometimes is much worse and certainly doesn't treat employees as well because they don't have to.
