How do I professionally handle a disorganized boss?
I’m feeling frustrated past my breaking point and I’m looking for advice and suggestions from the professional community.
My boss is the owner of the company and constantly misses deadlines. To the point where we give her earlier deadlines on purpose because we know she’s going to miss it and give her time to meet the real deadline.
I’ve filled out a physical planner for her, I’ve printed monthly calendars, weekly calendars, tried a Google calendar to give her notifications on her phone (that I’m pretty sure she turned off), and even texting her constant reminders doesn’t help her make deadlines.
We were recently audited by the state and the email came to her three weeks prior to the audit. She’s been getting so many emails she hardly checks her email due to feeling overwhelmed and didn’t see it. She got a call the Thursday before the Monday audit. Suddenly she’s throwing work on myself and the other admin, asking me to do things that are not only out of my job description or knowledge base, but also things we’ve been trying to put in front of her for 6 months to edit and approve. Suddenly it’s having to be done in a day because she decided the day the information was due for the audit - to throw the extra work at us. Then, when it’s not up to standard we are the ones who get blamed. If we speak up - as others have - our job is very much on the line. She has let people go for that.
This is not a time I want to be losing a job (during pandemic lockdown) but I also am on the verge of breaking. This is also not a great time to be finding a job.
All the jobs I want need the degree I’m in the process of getting - but I honestly don’t know if I can wait that long.
Any suggestions on how to handle this situation professionally and tactfully would be greatly appreciated.
