Looking for Career Coach

I'm thinking of getting a career coach. Has anyone dealt with one? How did you find them? And what should I expect from them? I"m 54 and my job has changed drastically over the past few years. And I'm bored. I need a new challenge but haven't looked for a job in about 20 years.

I have had a great deal of experience with executive coaches over the past 2 years. I currently work with 3 different coaches--one for my executive team, one for me as CEO, and one that was provided by a CEO group in which I participate. I first retained the coach working with my executive team. I found him through a google search--his firm was the only result that contained ALL of my search terms. I scheduled a meeting with him at a local coffee shop where we learned more about one another and I opted to retain his services for the team. We contracted for 12 months in 2019 and renewed for 12 months in 2020. The exec team has come a long way under his guidance and I think we are nearing "release from the nest." We work with him on a monthly basis, with 6 hour meetings quarterly. Just before the pandemic sent everyone home in mid-March, I contracted with a coach to work one-on-one with me. She was a speaker at a business breakfast I attend quarterly, and her message really resonated with me. I introduced myself after the breakfast, we exchanged business cards and I went back and learned more about her offerings. We met and discussed my needs and her approach. She offers 3 month contracts that allow us to evaluate progress and ensure that I am comfortable with the progress. I meet with her for 50 minutes weekly. The third coach I work with is not one I retained, but one that was hired by another organization to help a team of CEOs through an initiative. While I think this coach is knowledgeable about the subject matter, I find him patronizing in our interpersonal interactions. I spend time with him only as it relates to this project. My COO also works with this third coach with a different team on the same initiative and he really appreciates this coach. I am trying not to see this as a gender issue, but choosing to see this as different personalities appreciating different skills in different coaches. Not everyone is a good fit. I would ask around for references. Try to negotiate a short term arrangement to evaluate the fit. Don't be afraid to make a change, different individuals bring different approaches and all of this can be helpful.
