I currently work in Marketing. It has always been a dream of mine to work abroad. If you have, what has your experience been like? Is there a lot of competition? Any tips or advise would be amazing.

Are you online looking to join a corporate company or would you work for an online business // startup? If so, I could share some resources :)

It depends where you want to go, but start with LinkedIn and create a search for that region. Different countries have different work visa requirements depending on your citizenship and qualifications. Marketing and Content skills are very desirable. You could also work remotely before moving. I can offer more advice if you want to reach out.

I think it depends on what market you're looking at, as working visas different from country to country. As an expat myself, I had success reaching out to companies directly, introducing myself + my skills and asking if they are open to hiring someone from another country (and if they are, if they cover relocation + visa costs).
If it's something you are happy to wait a couple of years for, you could take a role at a local company that has offices abroad and apply for a transfer once you've established yourself.

I would definitely look into joining a US-based company that does work abroad in the area/region that you are interested in. Many large US-based consulting firms have sister corporations with local in-country registration that they can use as a payroll mechanism and avenue to obtain a work visa on your behalf. As Maree mentioned, you might need to gain a year or so of experience working for the consulting firm domestically but after that you'd have opportunities to be mobilized to other countries.

When it comes to finding jobs abroad it's easier at the corp level. Big corporations all have their "career" sites and ways to search, including by location. At some you might even be able to create an alert specifying the particular locale of your interest.

Hello there, I moved from Italy to US and I have been working here for the last 8 years. I didn't do it through a corporate job and I believe it should be easier in that way. I think that if you look for international companies you could start narrowing the search and it might lead you to people who are used to do the process of accepting candidates from different countries as a normal routine. As for international companies, it might be easier that they use English as primary language and so you might not need the knowledge of other languages.
Working abroad is an eye opening in many ways and it is hard, but extremely rewarding in terms of growing professionally. As it is for travelling, it will give you most likely an education and a mind openness that it cannot be compared to nothing else.
I hope it can help you. Good luck for your endeavour!!!

Wow, you are planning a great move, congratulations! I am also presently looking for jobs abroad since I will change continents because of some family needs. The strategy I have defined starts with trying to build a professional network in my new destination taking advantage of today´s so expanded virtuallity. I have started by asking people in my present geography for referrals in my destination and that worked well. In addition, I also became serious about using Linkedin for this purpose, I strongly recommend you so. And now I am in the phase of identifying professional and social associations that are related to my target area of further development or that could make me feel comfortable as having someone to reach out to once there just landed. That´s how I already spoke (and joined) a couple of professional foundations from where I am continuing to expand my network and where I am trying to make myself visible by contributing in their events or any way I can. So, hopefuly I will find concrete opportunities soon! Wish you lots of success and hope that sharing my strategy with you encourages you to start this fabulous journey!
