I'd start looking for another job. Hang on at your present company as well as you can, push back where you can, but in the current environment, STAY EMPLOYED. I'm hearing many stories about folks taking months and months to find a job, it's a tad frightening.

Your company is clearly not doing well however they still value you and so I would immediately ask for a new job description, title and any other details about the department they are moving you into. Ask if you will be measured for selling or if organizationally because there are less leaders they are moving you into Sales though you will not be selling. Let them know that when you were hired you did not want to be revenue producing and that you prefer to stay professionally on the clinical side. Let HR know about your concerns about toxicity with this person and cite speciic examples and concerns. Separate the conversation away from the other person who is complaining about it and let them sort their own situation out. If their documentation supports yours you could go together but I strongly suggest make this just about you. Develop your plan but know that you likely do not get to structure the organizational plan unless you are in HR or Exec team so you may just be stuck under this man. If that is the case, move over to that team but learn how to manage your manager. Document everything come prepared and be sure to reinforce that you are not a sales person if they move you to that. As an alternative if the company is packaging people out during this RIF period you could volunteer for that and let them know that is the only solution to this situation.
