Make 2020 Epic

Make 2020 Epic. This was the plan. You know the rest. But I've decided that 2020 will be Epic because I can still choose to take action that will bring me Epic results. What Epic Action are you going to take today? Tell me in the comments.

I am focusing on home, cooking, spending time with my husband and cats, exercising some and pondering what/if I can do something new in the career arena. (Maybe not— I am 65.) On the positive side, I feel some clarity on the “what” I’d like to do, if not the whether it is possible question, so that is progress. I recognize that I am extremely fortunate, but the pandemic has largely been a period of rejuvenation for me.

I love this post! Thanks for encouraging us. This coronavirus has pushed me to get into entrepreneurship. I've thought about it for 20 years, but never had the guts to take the first step. Well, there is no downside right now. A friend and I are writing a business plan and taking the steps to make our company a reality. Sometimes you just need the universe to give you a little push!

Hi Mimi. The business is a consultancy in education. Higher education and workforce upskilling has been given a gift of forcing change. My business wants to help with the change and innovation including: internationalization, the new use of space, workforce learning, and accountability. Two proposals out the door so fingers crossed!

My 2020 has been the epitome of Epic so far! I watched my toxic boss get fired, I got hired for ny dream job, I relocated from Singapore back to the US, I found a great apartment and new car with Pandemic deals that made them more affordable, and I'm starting to thrive at work. I'm still bummed about not being able to visit my immune-compromised mother, but I'm taking the time stuck at home to rebuild myself from the toxic boss trauma and focus on what's over the horizon. Any year is a good year if you focus on tbe positive!

Yes! I agree -- just because we are hearing so much "when will 2020 s be over" doesn't mean it can't be a personally epic year.

My plan was to polish up that resume and find a new position somewhere that fits me oh so much better than the one I've ended up in after countless re-orgs. But now I feel blessed to have a good job at a good company. So, I'm focusing on some personal projects that I've been thinking about for ages. It has been fun to finally get those moving!

That's terrific -- so often those personal projects never see the light of day and they are just as important as the projects that seem to take top priority.

Exercise (attempting to train for the Chicago marathon, knowing there is a good change it'll end up being cancelled), and complete a D&I in the workplace course

Stay focused on those goals -- achieving them will surely make 2020 epic -- no matter what!

Sheltering at home for 3 months and assisting my 2 children with remote learning has opened my eyes to all that I was missing out on and neglecting (not by choice). I was just working to live and not living. This experience helped me realize what is really important. I have cut off toxic people, stopped negative thoughts, and behavior. I was making a great salary and using money as a way to make up for the time I was not given my family and love ones. Time is something you can never get back. I realized the error of my ways and have declared we are going to make this an epic 2020 and close it out with a bang!!! I enjoyed being with my family, checking in on my friends and loved ones even if it was remotely. I never cooked so much and exposed myself to awesome new recipes. I really got to know myself, kids and loved ones. We have stayed safe and healthy and we look forward to what the "The New Normal" will be. I recommend everyone do an inventory of your life and purge what is not positive and working for you. Focus your energy on the people and things that matter! Only you can make yourself happy, no job, amount of money, house, degree, or relationship can do that for you.

Audra, how beautiful is this. I love the line, "this experience helped me realize what is really important." What a gift you've given to yourself without even knowing it. I feel very similar. My daughter is 11 and has ADHD. Homeschooling her (while difficult) was a blessing because I was able to really understand how her mind works, see it in action every day and recognize ways to help her along her own path.

I have recently lost my job to pandemic related budget cuts, and I am using the chance to change organizations to be much more intentional about where I spend my professional energy. I'm also beginning graduate school after being waitlisted last year! Today I am making positive affirmations and working on advocating for myself through personal branding.

Bethany, amazing focus and energy here! You are so right -- we need to be so clear on where we want to spend our professional energy. What will you be studying in grad school?

How wonderful -- you'll be making such an impact. Is part of the work incorporating animals as support to young kids?

I lost my job in the COVID-19 economic downturn. However, I'm using this opportunity to make the rest of my year epic by staying in a healthy routine, and seeking work opportunities that will pivot my career in an even better direction.
