Would you dare?

Having been in sales for the majority of my career (in one way or another) I have learned not to "fear" those with bigger titles. It's served me well, especially during prospecting for other companies and my own. Here's a piece of advice that works wonders: When you apply for a job, try reaching out directly to the hiring manager. If you can't tell who it is, do a little investigating on the company's website, LI, or even on FGB. Send either an email or a message with a unique cover letter. Your effort and creativity will immediately stand out. Will you hear back from every one of them? Nope. But I bet a few will respond and you'll be added to the top of the candidate pool. Would you dare to try this?? I have some cover letter tricks up my sleeve. Feel free to message me if you need some help in this area.

I always attempt to find out who the hiring manager is. It does make me feel like I have a little advantage. Great advice!

Sophia - it absolutely gives you the advantage. I would say hardly anyone is doing this. Good for you!

In my HR Generalist role, I had the opportunity to work with folks at all levels. The Division Manager would pop into my office regularly to show me what random collector item he was buying on eBay that day. It helped me learn that even those folks with big titles are just regular people too!

Aly, thanks for sharing. This is SO important and such a confidence booster if women can feel comfortable talking to those "above" them.
