Thanks COVID

My previous employer laid me off and I know a few of my fellow co-workers have been furloughed (I was due to relocate due to my husband's job anyway, which has now been put on hold...)so I have started over and did a revamp on a lot of things. This includes figuring out job, budget, unemployment, daycare options, etc. during Coronavirus limbo. There are actually many options not working now: be a stay at home mom, go get my master's, attempt to get a PHR cert or heavily hit the job search not knowing about relocation. Opinions? I always know "You do you" or "do what's best for you and your family" but just feel a little stuck.

I am in a similar situation now. You thinking about getting your masters really struck me. I was also laid off during the last recession. I had the idea of going back to school to get a masters but, it backfired terribly. Perhaps I did not pick the right school for me. I feel like also the lay-off had an emotional toll on me which I was still processing and led to performance anxiety. If you decide this route, do thorough research on the programs before deciding which would be right for you.

I think I found the one that I would like after looking a number of them the past 6 months or so. I started that process long before now. Now I think it's do I want to spend the money/student loans. Not interested in anymore debt but at the same time it would be useful to what I have been doing or could do in the future. I'm sorry you are feeling this too!

Yes the debt is a serious issue. There’s too much uncertainty on how the future climate will be. It’s hard to tell how the new normal is going to be like and who knows if there will be more recessions to come. I’m toying with the idea of getting certifications. Some are cost effective. I like working out and some of the fitness instructor certifications look appealing to me. Even if I don’t use the towards a profitable career, I feel I may get personal benefit out of some of them.

Or a small side business! One of my girlfriend's daughter's is a certified yoga instructor and does that on the side of her professional day job.

That's amazing!! And a HUGE credit to you for sticking to something with little ones! I am a big podcast fan and like to listen to them or audio books on my morning walk/jog. I would love to know what worked for you! I have a daily routine which has been good (Took a bit to establish with a 1 and 4 year old). Even lost a few pounds because I got my food habits back on track!! Just trying to see what my best option is going to be for the long term which is where I feel stuck.

I think this is a really good time to reset! Do you have a morning routine? I felt stuck and anxious about what to do next so I started journaling and doing some meditations (breathing/visualizing exercises) every morning. It was hard to get up and get going but after a week or so I really started to get some clarity. Sometimes it's hard to know what is best for you... especially when your life (and the world) is in a big state of change. Having a routine to fall back on and a little self care can make a world of difference and help you get some clarity! If you want some resources (books/podcasts/ect..) that have helped me I will be happy to share! :)
