Informational Interview > Actual Interview

How can I turn an information interview with someone I would love to work for to an actual interview opportunity? Should I go all in or take it slow and build trust overtime?

I spent the later part of 2019 doing a series of informational interviews they served several purposes 1) People were more relaxed and shared a ton of information about upcoming projects and company direction and needed skillset on the horizons. 2) I was able to somewhat interview them and their areas without being stuck or in need of a position. 3) It helped me network and led to other introductions because it wasnt so formal and scripted like an interview. I say continue building the relationship and view the opportunity from all aspects: manager, team, group working style, flexibilty, growth opportunities and any other factors that are of importance to you being comfortable in a position.

Agreed - start out as informational, and over time, continue to network and build the relationship with that person. You never know when they might have a position open up, or know a colleague who is looking for a candidate like yourself!

I would treat it like an informational interview since that was the type of meeting that this person granted you. At the same time, I would be sure to let this person know that you view him or her as your dream boss. Also, if there's time, I would elaborate and let them know the reasons why you see her as a dream boss, so this person knows you are very inspired by him or her. Good luck!
