I am a working professional and my profile is very boring.
Can you give some tips on activities that will make your profile look better?

Get involved in industry groups! Just basic membership looks better than nothing, but taking on leadership or active roles within these groups - local, national, or global - looks really good. I've been involved in several for my industry, and almost always get comments during interviews and resume reviews. It really makes you stand out as someone who is dedicated to the field, and will also expose you to a lot of people with similar job duties. This is great for networking, but also for seeking help and/or advice that's specific to your field that others may not really be able to understand.

Industry groups are great fillers, but volunteering, hobbies, and language-learning can also be great value-adds. It gives a window into your personality and a space for interviewers or networking to connect beyond just work. (I have had excellent interview conversations over the years from hobbies like quilting!) Volunteering with local nonprofits whose missions I really cared about once or twice a month also led to interesting career paths/growth for me, and it does get noticed on my resume.

All of the above are great recommendations. I would also add training and education - upgrade or maintain your skills through additional training, courses or certifications can be additional ways to spruce up your resume. And if you're really stuck you can also work with professional resume reviewers who have experience in redesigning and updating resumes. Good luck!

Could you add more details about special projects you've done in your role? Do you participate or lead any groups within your company, such as a women's resource group? Do you contribute thought leadership on any online forums or blogs?

Talk about your achievements however large or small. And add some sprinkles!
For example: if you have trained as few new employees in your current role you can capitalize on that “successfully trained 3-5 colleagues on internal controls”
Maybe you suggested a procedure change that resulted in saving the company time and money. Talk about it.
Anything you have done in your past or current roles that show you’re a team player, a leader, that you’re flexible, innovative, creative. Tailor it to the industry you’re looking to work in.

I would recommend volunteering, taking on roles that require leadership like chairing committees, and participating in groups or roles where you can learn and help out even if it’s unpaid.

If there are any committees at your company that you can join, those are great things to add to your resume. Also, volunteer work (especially if it shows off your skills) can also look great on a resume. Good luck in your job search!

All the above recommendations are great. I would recommend Joining non-profits organisations. Maybe start an industry-related podcast. Join any organization as a mentor. Good luck!

So many good tips! Make sure that you are not just sharing your job description, but include accomplishments! And, volunteer experience is still experience! If you are volunteering somewhere, be intentional about what you want to accomplish to add to your experience!

Side projects are a great addition to a resume. Blogs, YouTube channels, podcasts, etc. are great projects to add on a resume. I know a lot of people that got jobs due to their side projects they have done. Mentoring is also another good way to stand out on a resume. Hiring managers often tell me that mentoring and being active in communities within your industry.

I recently hired a professional resume (and linkedin) writer. I had no idea how different the format for resumes are these days. Without knowing your background or education, I learned if you do have a masters, do highlight that upfront in your descriptor. That is not to be underestimated. It is about key words and highlighting accomplishments (no matter how big or small).
Quantify your work results
Highlight any big awards/recognitions you have received
Work committees/volunteer projects you have worked on
Volunteer/side projects that you have been involved with

Project leadership within non-profit organizations is a good addition to your resume. Also consider adding any teaching/training for outside groups. If you have transferable skills that you use outside of work, you should consider adding them to your resume.
