Career Transition Advice
Hi All- I worked for one employer for my entire career and couldn’t have loved the employer more. The place had the best benefits, the salaries were on target, 401k matching were excellent and I was earning more than a day off every pay period. I had a ton of leave. I had a pension as well. Then, something happened that I had no control over. But that something, that was not my fault, got me terminated. I am beyond devastated. I feel betrayed and I have lost my identity. I don’t handle change well at all. I grew up at work with friends and actual family who all still work there. The situation has broken my heart and I can’t ever rectify it. So, while I am grateful to have a new job, I am not even being challenged or using half of my potential. I am bored! I am considering going back to school to get a degree in something else. Or furthering certifications in my current career path. I keep asking people why they have chosen their career to see if it sounds interesting to me. I like what I do, but maybe a change would be best. My child is an adult now, so I am not a young person. I am trying to determine what new career would be best for someone around my age and if college again would be worthwhile. If you love your job/career, will you please share why and whether you think it would be a good jump for someone to get into. I am an extreme introvert and very smart. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!!!
