I was laid off at the end of May due to COVID-19. I have been doing volunteering work in the meantime while trying to find a job (so that I don't have a gap in activity). Along with the millions who are now unemployed, I find myself running into the cycle of applying for jobs I am qualified for but then hearing nothing back or getting the standard form email of "Thank you for applying, but we're going in a different direction." I worry that the longer it takes for me to find another full-time job, the worse it will look for me with the gap in my employment. Is there anything that I should be doing differently outside of tailoring each cover letter and resume? I am even looking outside my industry in the hopes of landing job security and have tons of transferable skills. Any pointers would be greatly appreciated!
