I need advice. My bonus this year was the lowest it’s ever been (roughly 1/3 of the previous year’s amount) and it’s really upsetting me.
To give some context, I transferred to a new role internally in April, and then went on maternity leave in June. My new boss gave me a decent bonus, given I was only in the role two months before going on leave. What’s upsetting me is that my previous boss did not give me any bonus at all despite spending a good portion of the year in that role and performing really well based on feedback from her, leadership and others. The previous year I received a $21,000 bonus, the highest in our department. In my experience, managers do give bonuses to employees that spend even just part of the year in a role. My manager and I did not part on the best of terms and it feels like she did this to retaliate against me. I really needed the bonus and I feel that all of my efforts were for nothing because they were not recognized.
Do I say something to my former boss? Do I complain to someone more senior? Do I say something to my new boss? I don’t think anything can be done at this stage since bonuses have been paid out already but I just feel so overlooked in short-changed.
