I joined my org last year, and the lead I was assigned joined the org two years earlier. That said, I have more experience and credentials than the lead (I've worked for very large orgs in our sector, they haven't), but this person is considered "above" me solely due to seniority and the fact that…

There is something called “quiet firing” — I had a boss who used this tactic hoping I would get the hint that my role was being eliminated since he couldn’t tell me directly and he thought I would start looking before the separation. It was pretty horrible. But make an effort to better understand how you can optimize your work with your boss. There may just be something just outside your view going n that could put your mind at ease.

I've heard of that, but in two of these cases, it's been that way since day one, so I cannot imagine that's it. Current strategy is to find a better job and ask hard questions in the interview!

Definitely not. Have you asked the tough questions before taking those roles about the feedback loop and how they handle it? If you have not then you don't know what you are walking into and might be in a place that doesn't align with how you like to work. Build out a list of things that you want and need and never forget the interview process means you ask what you need too next time. Make your 1-1's count by managing your manager. If you think you can turn it around, book a meeting with them. Let them know what you need and start tracking your own progress against goals you set for yourself. You can self manage that way and rise above a bad or absent manager if the meeting still doesn't change their behavior. Good luck.

Definitely, next job I consider I will be asking hard questions about that before I accept This is BS and it's not good for my career or my sanity!

OP above, never cheat yourself out of finding out from current and former (use linkedin for this) and things like blind and glassdoor to see what others think about specific culture things. Then you can go in open eyed and assure you don't deal with the bs again...
