I've worked at a large non-profit performing arts company for the last 3.5 years, in mainly administrative roles. After steadily developing events and outreach-based skills, but not seeing appropriate advancement opportunities, I planned on leaving the company this summer for a more challenging role. When the world came to a screeching halt in March, I decided to stay with the company, but moved to Oakland, CA in hopes of finding a job while we worked remotely. Since arriving, I've realized that the positions that interested me before are now almost nonexistent, as meeting in large groups is a health hazard for the foreseeable future. My company is looking towards returning to working in-person in the coming months, and I am struggling to find work in Oakland that isn't exactly what I do now (but at less desirable companies). Does anyone have advice on advancement or pivoting careers when the things that you want to do simply aren't available?
