CBD?

A healthcare professional recommended I try a low dose of CBD for persistent anxiety. My company’s drug policy does not explicitly state whether this is allowed. I am worried that if I ask HR it will reflect poorly on me and/or suggest I have already taken it (I have not). I was drug tested once previously when I was asked to do outside contract work for another company, but otherwise am not tested. I am curious what other people’s thoughts are about this. Thank you in advance for your input!

My experience: I chose to take CBD rather than an opiate after ACL surgery, and I found it to be highly effective with post surgical pain management. I have never heard about CBD products containing any THC. CBD is a legal product and is sold OTC in many forms at Walmart, drugstores, and the like. Common sense tells me that even a trace amount of THC would render the product illegal in most states

If your company does contract work for the government, or if you do outside contract work with a company that does work for the government, then there could be an issue. While CBD is legal, most products have a small amount of THC in them and if you use them often enough the THC will build up and can show up in a drug test. Since some tests are just pass/fail it could trigger a failure. If the policy says that you are not allowed to have any THC at all, then you might ask the person who recommended you to take CBD if they can recommend options with no THC in them. I know that these "CBD only" options exist, but I don't know what they are called and don't want to give you the wrong information. I've also heard that they aren't as effective as CBD options with THC, but if a low dose is being recommended, maybe it won't matter. Hope this helps!
