When they asked, you should have said 'It's a little on the low side, to be honest' - maybe they can find the extra $$ for the right candidate. If you *now* ask for more, it's going to be awkward... Which is not to say you can't, just that you've put yourself on the wrong foot.

I had this happen to me today. Offering $17-$21 per hour for an Admin Coordinator, which I just can't accept. This is because that was the salary level offered to me as an Admin Assistant B six years ago. An AC is a step up in responsibility, so the salary should at least start at $21. I live in a larger city and this is at a large university with no remote work for this position. If I was living outside of town, the pay would be eaten up by commuting costs. I really do need to get back to work, but I do need a good salary for it to be worthwhile.
