I have been interviewing with Company A for a manager level position. I really like the company, I've met the team and we get along well and the higher ups say there's room for growth. I've been verbally told they will more than likely be making an offer. Their benefits are good and the pay range is above my expectations. However, I had applied for another position at another company that I was very excited about before I had even applied for the position at Company A. It took a little while for Company B to start interviewing but the hiring manager and I hit it off during that first interview. They said I was one of their top candidates & hinted that they may be able to meet my salary expectations even though it's higher than their expected range due to my experience. The benefits appear to be better with Company B but there's probably going to still be another 2-3 rounds of interviews (probably spanning the next week or two) with Company B with no guarantee that an offer is waiting at the end of it or that it would be what I'm expecting. Would it be better to go with the known with Company A when they make an offer? I know in this market, this is a great situation to be in but I've never experienced it. I'd be happy at Company A but I'd always wonder if I don't go for Company B. Any advice would be appreciated.

I Started with my company 3 years ago as an LOA specialist. I was then promoted and was always giving autonomy to make decisions and revamp processes where I saw fit. We then decided to outsource and that's when my new boss was hired on. She wanted to fully transition me to benefits bc she felt there was no need to handle LOA since we had a 3rd party. I told her from the start i still feel we will need to manage the relationship and work closely with our 5 HR sites on everything. She disagreed. I was happy for the opportunity to learn about benefits but shortly after I started I gave birth and went on mat leave for 4 months. I came back and was expected to know everything benefits. I had zero training and was expected to look at SOPs and figure it out. A year later I'm feeling more comfortable but that's not why I'm posting. Everything you've read so far is just the tip of the iceberg. My boss is a mean girl. She always has been since she started and no one likes her. I was always on her good side but as of lately I haven't been. The other problem is my coworker too. I found out my boss called my coworker one day when I had covid. It was our in office week and I got covid and told her I had it and would be working remote. She said ok thanks for telling me. Not, ok feel better or keep me posted on how you're feeling. Instead, she calls my coworker to bitch that I didn't go in and "covid guidelines don't even have any restrictions anymore". Ever since I found that out I cannot trust her. Why is she calling my coworker about me?! That is so unprofessional. She doesn't know I know. Things have continued to escalate and I notice she doesn't even look for my input in meetings or give me updates and goes straight to my coworker. It's made me so uncomfortable and that she doesn't want me on her team. She also told me months ago she was ok with my doing local AE meetings bc I have little kids. Then last week tells me she's sending me to CA. Which is the most difficult location to get to bc you have to rent a car and drive over an hour to get there. I had told her previously i don't drive much and she still is sending me. I'll do it but the sudden switch makes me feel uncomfortable. I love the company but also feel I can't find another job bc I have so little experience in benefits. Idk how much more I can handle. Please help with any advice!

Some days I push literal and figurative paper all day long. Those are boring days. Other days, like today, I check out social media and consider myself very lucky. I have a great boss and easy commute, and can wfh some days. And there are days I count the minutes to the end of the workday. Sending support and hope to all who are seeking a job, a better job, or more development. It is a journey for us all!!!

Interviewing is a skill! We are now in the times of multiple rounds of interviews. The common mistake...treating each round exactly the same. Below are some tips on the different Rounds of Interviews and what to be aware of or how to best prepare. Most Common Interview Types • Screening/Recruiter/1st Interview – Typically these interviews are approximately 10-15 minutes and are action packed. This is a high-level assessment to check the boxes on the list of criteria for the role in order to decide if to move you forward to the next round. Questions will be direct and to the point and will be highly focused on your skills. It is key to be able to concisely emphasize the skills you possess that are most important to the role you are pursuing. Surprises: Be prepared to answer salary requirement questions. This is now a more common ask. • Behavioral Interview – These interviews are usually 30-45+ minutes and include behavioral style questions. You should prepare to have at least 2-3 different past experiences where you have completed tasks most relevant to the role you are interviewing for. Surprises: IF by chance you are asked a question about something that you have not done, be transparent, and still provide the information we are looking for by walking us through what you would do if presented with the task. • Technical/Testing Interview – Technical interviews can be found in many forms. For Technology, where it is most prevalent, it could be a test of your skills in completing a task provided, i.e. coding. However, this can still be found in other fields in forms of simulations i.e. Marketing Proposal or Presentation, etc. The key here is talk it out. Communication is key. Walk your audience through your thought process as you go. Surprises: Getting something wrong or not knowing how to complete the task does not automatically mean that you are out the running for the job. Show how you would go about completing a new task or something you have not done before. Be detailed with resources you would go to or outreach you would make, timeline on completions, etc. After your interview, you can still show your determination and continue to solve it and within a reasonable amount of time (1-2 days or less) include your solution in your thank you note. • Executive Interview – Executive interviews are usually the last or final step to an interview process. This would be it. These interviews are all about fit management. Rarely will you find questions that are behavioral or in depth on skills. At this stage the Executive is looking to make sure that you would be a good fit within the organization. One of the biggest misses in these interviews are interview questions asked. Executives are the visionaries of the organization. Your questions should be relative to impacting the organization as a whole and not just tasks for the role or yourself. Surprises: Executives are people too and put their pants on one leg at a time just like everyone else. Don't forget the power of simply having conversation and building rapport. i.e. location, weather, accomplishments of the organization or themselves they are most proud of. Happy Interviewing.
