Concerned

I have pretty much been back to work since mid summer and now with being put on shift work and having my scheduled almost on a daily basis I am considering looking for another job. I am thankful for my job but feel like I don't have any work/life balance. Does anyone have a solution/suggestion for this or am I just effected by Covid fatigue?

Work/life balance is harder to accomplish these days for sure! But, whether it's due to more stress on the job or stress from the so-called COVID fatigue, we all have to take it upon ourselves to figure out what will bring us happiness! For you, maybe this means adding something to your daily routine, like practicing mindfulness or meditation to avoid feeling burnt out on the job. Or, maybe it is as extreme as looking for a new job. If you're not sure what the right path forward is, then seek out a life coach! As a recruiter and coach myself, I can attest to many people who face the same dilemma you are facing, even prior to the pandemic.

You could be experiencing COVID fatigue or you could just be tired due to your schedule with your job. When we don't feel like we have a work/life balance, that can be very draining. It never hurts to look for a new job, you might find something that you enjoy more and would offer that balance you feel like you are missing right now. I think a lot of us are struggling to some degree. Most aren't able to get out as easily as we would normally be able to, that can be very draining mentally.

It could definitely be COVID fatigue. I absolutely love my job but I’m so tired. And being home all the time feels like you never turn off completely. If you feel like you have a supportive manager or peer, try talking to them to see if they are feeling the same way.

I can totally relate to what the rest of the group is saying. You are feeling fatigued and I would say it is more from being burned out. I have been in situations like you are in and it is no fun trying to balance life and work when a job takes up all your time. Maybe try discussing your dilemma with management. But if that fails to bring results, think about other options. There is always a better opportunity out there. I wish you a successful outcome!

You spend a lot of your life in your job — and if it is the thing in your life that is not working — or it is making your non-work life not work — then make a plan to find a new one. It is true that the isolation and stress of COVID — changes in self-care routines, family dynamics, children at home, feeling disconnected from friends, family, and your interests — is impacting all of us to some degree or another. But if you can keep this job, while looking for a new one — fixing the job is something you CAN change — and may help you handle the COVID and non-COVID stressors in your life more successfully.

Think about it this way-is this something you can control? If yes, why worry. If no, why worry. Find your way back to the things you can control and live your one, beautiful, passion-filled life. Make it count, instead of counting the days.

Listen to your body! If you can journal your feelings over a few weeks, and every day the same feeling is coming up...might be time to look for something that is more fulfilling! Good luck!

It definitely sounds like you are dealing with fatigue, but not necessarily COVID specific. Shift work can be draining, and if you don't have work/life balance, that can increase the feelings of fatigue. Are you in a position to look for another job while remaining where you are? In my experience, being able to do this is so helpful, because you can consider an offer on its own merits, as opposed to being in a situation where you just need a paycheck. I would recommend putting out some feelers and seeing what's available. You may determine that you're best off where you are, or you may find a great opportunity that you can jump on. The great part is that you don't have to be in a hurry, so you can do it at your own pace. And if it really is more COVID fatigue, taking some new action (like job hunting) may be just enough to relieve the tedium. Just because you look for a job doesn't mean you have to change jobs.

Hi there! It could definitely be fatigue, but that just means your body is telling you something is not right. It doesn't hurt to look and see what's out there while in your current job. I know it seems like an additional burden to take on, but just commit to one small step a day: Day 1: updating your resume, Day 2: updating your LinkedIn, Day 3: setting up e-mail alerts on online job boards for positions of interest, and so on. Take a breath and take your time! :)
