Sorry to hear how this happened. Please know that many companies will not allow an employee to work their 2 week notice out as they are nervous of what could happen. I always tell people that when you give 2 weeks, expect to be told not to return and they would mail you your final check, etc. it is not usually about anything but security reasons (people have been known to take company info, contact info, etc. or just not work for the company for the last 2) so they cut ties at that time.

I’m sorry this happened to your coworker. Attitudes like this do no companies any favors. It sounds like this is just an additional straw that is breaking for you.
Unless there was something you weren’t privy to, there is no reason to smear someone. Sometimes they ask folks to leave the day they resign if they are going to a competitor.
Anyway ask yourself if this is a part of a culture you want to be in, get your resume together and start looking for a better fit. Funnel the energy of how upset you are into finding a new role.
