I would like to ask for any and all advice! I have a friend in a job search. She needs to grow her skills. She has admin HR Assistant and customer service skills. Would anyone know of any places she could look to see what else she could train for? I know Google has certifications. Coursera you audit classes.....Also, are there any folks she network with who could help with career pathing? Thank you for any help!

In addition to your suggestions for classes and certifications, LinkedIn Learning has a plethora of courses to expand skills capacity and obtain credits towards certifications. It would be helpful to know her career and industry interests to offer advice on career paths. Pairing HR and customer service skills in growth industries like supply chain and healthcare could be worth researching. Regarding the healthcare industry, don't assume or stop at hospitals for positions; look at the connected organizations that support hospitals services in those communities.

I would do more networking and set up a bunch of informational interviews. Many professionals are willing to give you 20 - 30 minutes to tell you about career path. It's a great way to find out more about different career paths and gather information about what kind of training (if any) is needed. It's also an opportunity to share what you're interested in so they think of you when opportunities come up.

I agree with what has been said above. She might want to get connected with SHRM for additional resources, networking and certs. She might want to join HR groups in her local community and just sign up for webinars, conferences that align with her HR interests. I would tell her to remain open and seek out the companies who are going through a complete HR revamp. I feel like every other day on my LinkedIn timeline, I'm seeing people via my connection announcing new jobs in DEI roles. The HR landscape is changing, so I feel there is a lot of opportunity for her to do great things.

Diversity, Equity and Inclusion roles --- the industry usually refers them to DEI roles. Basically, this person specializes creating meaningful change in the workplace and has a particular interest in developing internal polices, programs, procedures, initiatives etc. that create actionable strategies that support underrepresented or marginalized groups. Here is an article talks more about the increase of these roles: https://www.shrm.org/resourcesandtools/hr-topics/talent-acquisition/pages/new-dei-roles-spike-after-racial-justice-protests.aspx

There are so many companies offering free classes now! It's amazing! LinkedIn Learning has some many different classes, that is a good way to start! But if she has some initial ideas of areas where she wants to grow, I would look at the companies who focus in those areas, some are offering free classes. I just certified with The Trade Desk!
