It's Monday. It's June 1st. What do you want your next 30 days to look like?

When we move through life, too often we just go with the flow, react to stimuli and play defense and then we look back and think, 'how did I get here?" Living our lives in the present, thinking before responding to situations and circumstance and choosing our next step is how we get to live a purposeful life. Do you find yourself struggling with this? I know, even as a coach, I have to redirect my attention to today. I have to pause, reflect and respond instead of reaction. I have to set my intentions, create a plan and step forward with precision. It's exhausting but rewarding. How do you want your life to look?

Driven is doing the work of my purpose and sometimes I get re-directed. It’s continually living in the moment, doing the best as possible taking the time to reflect and re-configure if necessary. Great post!

I’ve been going with the flow for years. I have been scared to step out into the unknown. I’ve been on my job for 19 years and felt a sense of security. Now COVID-19 happened and I’m wondering where do I go now and how do I get started. I updated my refund but I feel like I need professional guidance because I want to change career paths. When asked, “what do you want to do and what kind of job do you want”. I tend to go blank. I’m still trying to find that sweet position and job.

Dr. Steph. This is so common, especially now. We tend to go blank when asked what might we want to do because of fear and security. To announce that we want something different then what our life looks like today means we are throwing security out the window. That, in turn, brings up more fear. What you may want to start saying to yourself is this, how can a job that I am excited about where I do something that energizes me positively impact my future and ultimately create a new kind of security. Take a few moments every day with envisioning how you FEEL in your new job (even though you don't know what it is). What's it like waking up in the morning? How quickly are your days going. Do you feel fulfilled, inspired, ignited at the end of the day. The more you can FEEL it the closer you can get to getting it. Career transitions are a process and a journey and it really begins with releasing what is holding us back from making significant change.

Thank you so much!!! I never voiced my insecurity around a career change. Thank you so much for your words of advice I’m going to do that!!!

Let me know how you 'feel' after two weeks, the energy shift within our bodies is pretty incredible.

I think we are all there. So many people are looking for a career change but with a work force looking for a change will employers adapt to them?

The question really becomes what does driven mean to you? Labels don't matter, it is more of feeling content with your life, the choices you make (which sound solid, thoughtful, pragmatic and measured). Ultimately, if you look at where you are today, is this a destination you decided on or are you letting the world, the universe choose for you. It sounds like you're right where you want to be.

Reflecting, I've spent most of my life going with the flow. Here and there, consciously pushing myself in one direction or another, by making specific choices. I've always followed my instincts. Have never defined myself as "driven." I consider options, research ideas, overthink a lot, might bounce an idea off several people, seek advice from mentors, let an idea stew, and meditate before I make any decision. Conversely, colleagues and friends have called me driven, motivated, and focused. So, even though I *think* I'm coasting along, letting the universe guide me, it looks different from the outside. Perhaps my definition of "driven" is wrong.

I don't know. I'm applying for position trying follow up and don't be discourage with ever rejection. I'm a good worker but I don't have unique skills employers are looking for. I try not to be scared but I cannot help it. I wear a mask when I go outside but I can not longer tell the difference between that mask and the one I wear when friends ask how things are going and I smile and say, "fine."

You are unique, you just haven't recognized how to articulate your unique perspective and tell your story. Here's a kickstart for you, our free Brand of You Creative Brief, it will walk you through the steps on how to tell your story. Copy and paste link in browser. https://bit.ly/2xlkuOr Why are you hiding behind "I'm fine?" Have a discussion with friends and share what you dealing with but do so with an eye towards talking out the situation so that a solution can emerge. That's a very different perspective and intention then what you probably view as complaining. Why do you feel compelled to wear a mask with friends?

Because they hold an option of me which I don't hold. They say me I'm a hard worker, smart etc etc etc but without a job, without an income I feel the opposite.

Everyday. I wonder how I let myself get into the situation I'm currently in; however, I know I cannot dwell in the past. I need to learn from it and move forward.

Rebecca -- it sounds like you are finding yourself in a hard spot. I am a believer that we make no wrong choices in life (even though at times it may feel like we've bad a lot of bad ones to get us where we are currently.) All situations can be an opportunity for growth (and I know -- some situations you may be thinking, really?! do I want to grow from THIS?) You are right, dwelling in the past keeps us stuck. Your best course of action is to learn and move forward. What is one next step you can take?
