Hello,
i’ve been at my job for a year and my last day is in a couple of weeks.
Yesterday I found out that my supervisor resigned, her last day is at the end of the month. We had previously talked about some projects that I should wrap up. But now she has added a program evaluation for the last five years of the program. I’ve only been there one year and the data management system is not the best (the data is all over the place). How do I tell her this is not a reasonable goal?
additional info- I’m a Part-time employee, one year with non-profit organization
My boss is a full-time employee and has we been with the organization for 5 years.
SOS
thank you!

The program evaluation is likely something that she needs to deliver to someone else before her last day at the end of the month and she is looking to you to get a jump start. It also sounds like you already have a lot to do before your last day. How about having another conversation with her to strategize your last few weeks? Discuss the projects that need to be wrapped up, time estimates for each and the actual number of days/hours left for you at this job. Seek her input on prioritization (perhaps another project can be dropped). Also discuss expectations of the program evaluation (format, descriptions, what data to include) and any limits on data accessibility. Rather than a 100% complete product, it may be that she is hoping that you can get her started with a template or first draft that gets her 70% of the way. Hopefully, her leadership style has made it possible for candid communication in the past so that it will not be difficult to initiate this discussion now, when you both are under extra pressure to wrap things up. Also, you will know if her expectations are generally reasonable or if you are often expected to accomplish more than is humanly possible given the time allotted. Either way, you won't regret a good faith effort to align your priorities with hers, while also giving thought to and communicating what is realistically possible. Best wishes to you on your next steps!
