Presenting Yourself on Zoom (or, should I get a haircut)

I am seeing others stepping up their looks while on Zoom calls. In the beginning of COVID19 people were wearing t-shirts and baseball hats, growing beards and hair up in ponytails. Now people are wearing button down tops and have fresh do's. While I've always dressed casual but professional, my hair is getting out of control. I have the opportunity to get my hair cut later this week but I am really nervous about it. Thoughts?

I think one of the things everyone has been told in sessions and webinars on tips while working remote is to keep an appearance like you would in the office so people are starting to get back in the groove with dressing less casually, makeup, doing hair, etc. If you don't feel comfortable going for a cut, don't do it just for your job. See what you can do to make it work at home. Products, hair pulled back, etc. until you feel fine with going to a salon.

When people show you who they are, believe them!

Hello, I personally wear my hair short, so it forces me to take care of it and I want to always look my best. If you are struggling with getting your haircut, make the most of the situation and possibly style it differently. Choose excellence at all times....not perfection. :)

Stephanie, I am with you! My normally clean-shaven head is growing out and not my favorite look. I can shave it at home but it will be much closer than I really want. If you take precautions and make sure the stylist is also following safety precautions, it should be minimal risk. I actually got a massage last week in my home (since their office is closed). She took precautions as did I; I also know her so there was built-up trust. Much needed due to muscle/pain issues I have and actually will help my immune system. Be careful and follow guidelines and you should be ok. (Just don't pick a brand-new stylist right now...go to someone you know and trust.)
