Have you noticed the difference on your grocery receipt?

According to Bureau of Labor Statistics, grocery prices grew 2.6% from March to April 2020 and 4.1% since April 2019! Have you noticed the different on your grocery receipt? Are you & your family doing anything to offset the increased costs?

I meal plan around the sales and if chicken is on sale then I am making sheet pan dinners with veggies or maybe a chicken pasta dish. I buy ground beef when it is on sale and freeze it so I am never paying full price. I grocery shop once a week and I use Ibotta app to make cash back and I try to spend cash so I do NOT go over my grocery budget.

Sandra, we basically have the SAME approach (minus the cash)! I might experiment with that just to see what happens :)

It makes you TRULY rethink just tossing items in your basket! Try it and you will think differently about your grocery bill overall.

Another WFH brainy idea!

Same here Obe! Many times making a few stops for the best deal/freshest options is key. I have zero problem with comparison shopping!

Prices have indeed increased with certain commodities such as beef, chicken, pasta, fresh fruits and vegetables. On the flip side certain staples have been reduced- coffee, beans, fish and eggs in my grocery store at least. My go-to at this time is to scour the website and make comparisons with what I need and what’s on sale so it doesn’t drain my almost empty wallet. Back to the olden days when I would tell my kids it’s not on sale, put it back. We’ll get it another time.

I am with you, Obe! I also start my meal planning/grocery list with the weekly ad to try and save on sale items.

I have been focusing on my health during this "stay at home" period, and naturally my bill has gone up. However, the produce I am finding is so fresh. I have also been watching tutorials on how to properly store fresh produce and how to stretch its freshness. Food for thought :)

I LOVE this reminder, Heather! I actually just just created this FOOD WASTE WORKSHEET for the same reason -- to ensure what I am buying is being used and not wasted $$ down the drain. You can check it out here: https://www.themealplanningmethod.com/blog/free-printable-food-waste-worksheet

I have noticed that many of staple items are little as $1 more to $2-$3 more. Things are getting expensive. Strawberries and fresh produces are going up.

Wow, Soyoung! Do you find you pay the extra $$, forget the item, OR substitute it with something else?

About 3 weeks ago I saw 1.5 dozen eggs going for $12.00. CRAZY

During the quarantine, my grocery habits changed to one trip per week. Trying to keep that habit in place – fewer trips = less spending.
