The one thing you should do immediately after being fired
Being fired is difficult and heartbreaking for so many reasons. Yet just because you've been fired doesn't mean there won't be — and that there can't be — bluer skies and better jobs ahead.
Right after you're fired, you should immediately ask your employer for the circumstances surrounding your termination.
This will help you both in the short and long term. In the moment, you'll learn about important things like severance pay, unemployment, and benefits. You'll also hear your employer's feedback and understand what kind of information will be made known to your colleagues and future employers.
It may be daunting to ask these questions, but doing so will help you leave on a cleaner, positive note.
What advice do you have for someone who's just been fired? What else should someone do right after they've been let go?
