New Job transition

For the past (and first) four years of my career I worked in this large real estate conglomerate, but I had resigned effective yesterday. This Friday will be my first day in a new company in a different industry. Hope you guys can give me advice on how to prepare and adjust for this transition. Thanks a lot

Be open to learning! Know that your skills from your past career will help. Don't be afraid to ask for help. Be kind to yourself, it will take take to settle in. Seek out a company mentor that is not your boss. Take the time to virtually meet people and be a joiner in company activities.

Here is my $0.02 that i do with any new hire, you can use something like this, take it to whomever is helping you transition into your role to help guide you: 1. Who we are (the team you are joining)? - Team Makeup & dynamics 2. Internal Customers (who do you serve internally & how do you create relationships) - Departments we serve 3. External Relationships - 3rd party relationships 4. What we do & How we do it & what is our philosophy?

Congratulations on the new job! As others have said, remember that you got the job because the hiring managers realized you have what it takes to be successful in the role. It can often be overwhelming when you start a new job - so much to learn all at once. Be spacious and gracious with yourself and most importantly... open to learning. Keep an open mind, confidence, enthusiasm and positive energy and you will enjoy the new adventure. Have fun with the change challenge! All the best.

Everyone at your new company came from some other company. Use your great experience to help meet the needs of the new place. When you find yourself thinking "That's not the way we did it at my last company" stop and think, was the old company's way better or just more familiar? Then react appropriately. The fact that you are worried about this indicates you will be a great employee for your new employer. Good luck!

Hi Anon, Congratulations! I would find out as much as I could about the new company you will be working for (Glassdoor, Google, friends, etc) Also, I would take notes on how job duties are performed, the work environment, who's in charge of what project, talk with the employees , etc. Best wishes, I hope you will flourish at your new job.

First congratulations on your new position! Remember that the hiring manager recognized your skill set that will translate into your current role. Before starting refresh yourself with you new role and do a contrast and compare to your former role. Be open and willing to learn but confident enough to know that you have everything you need to succeed in this new role! All best and keep up the good work!
