How does HR decides who to lay off ?
I've just started this new job 2 months ago and layoffs are happening.
Whilst I'm not particularly worried as I do well in interviews what makes them decide to keep you or not ?

To give you insight as to how this has worked from my role as a senior leader: one time I was told that my department needed to cut 1, and it was up to me to decide. I considered seniority, performance, and the skillset of the remaining team members (ie the person with the most specialized skill set remained and absorbed some of the work of the departing employee).

This is not typically an HR decision. This is a decision of management based on any number of factors - usually decided by the company.
