Can I make a suggestion?
Stop limiting yourself on here and Linkedin.
Connect with people you don’t know.
When I look back on the jobs I had, they were landed on LinkedIn.
I was hired because my manager at the time searched for someone with my skillset and I popped up.
That job was part of my path to lead me here.
Submitting application after application and hearing nothing is terribly draining and leaves you feeling helpless.
You will tell yourself a million false stories as to why no one is getting back to you.
And those stories can wreak havoc on your mental state.
Job seekers, make connections, and have conversations that help you build your professional network.
Take time to learn about other industries.
Every conversation is a step forward creating motion.
Energy.
Finding a new job is a marathon, not a sprint.
And members, remember what it was like to be a job seeker.
Be the person that makes a difference for someone else.
Check your messages and respond.
Even if you don’t have a job to offer, you might have information that will help them move forward.
And moving forward is what we are all seeking.
Give.
Help.
Support on another.
It always comes back around.

I love connecting with people on LinkedIn... as long as they aren't trying to pitch me something. I've found it's incredibly helpful to have a network to reach out to when you do find yourself in the market for a specific product or service! I'm happy to connect with you all as well: https://www.linkedin.com/in/marianne-ketterhagen-shrm-cp-53b53190/

I agree Marianne - assume good intent and you should prosper there! If I connect and then get sold something, I disconnect. If they are there to provide value to me for something that I either need now or maybe in the future, I see that as a win!

One of my personal goals this year is to increase confidence, and I've been using networking to try to help. It's intimidating to reach out to people you don't know, but it's definitely helping! I would love to connect! My company will most likely be hiring in the new year too, so I'll also be posting job updates - https://www.linkedin.com/in/natalie-kozlowski/

What is your resume saying about you?
12/08/20 at 11:59PM UTC
in
Absolutely! Connect with people because they are interesting and you genuinely want to get to know others rather than only connecting when there seems to be an obvious potential benefit to you. It should never be a numbers game--having a large number of connections is meaningless if you don't actually take the time to get to know any of them on an individual level. You never know how you might be able to help someone in the future, or how they might be able to help you, so it is always worth it to take the time to connect and get to know people.

Love this post! I had been out of the job search for many years and found myself two years ago back at it. I hadn't realized how much it had changed. Learned how important networking is in today's business environment. Feel free to connect:
