Two people in my group were recently promoted and they both gossip and make up lies about others. It is petty and shows their insecurities. I am looking for other opportunities because some of the gossip is about me. I regret accepting a position there and had no way to know that this …

One piece of advice that actually worked (during the last 5 years), was do not apply to a job that has these requirements early in the interview process (before they meet you), or without you having secured a connection or recommendation from someone at the company first.
Don't waste your time. Focus on networking and leveraging connections. Some companies /industries have antiquated hiring systems and processes. For most jobs, this type of assessment work comes later for top candidates if at all. For other industries, it may be part of a cattle call- but it's known in the industry--and if it's known, your peers /professors, professionals in the field can help. If I'm not describing your industry, don't bother.
Good luck!
