I have a conflict of interest question for you all.
I work in academia in helping design course materials, lessons, etc. (like an instructional designer). I recently had the opportunity to take on a second job with similar responsibilities. I would be working different hours, in different systems, with different content, with different faculty, on two different work laptops with two different internet connections, in two different time zones. There is no competition between the two schools, no overlap in anything educational (e.g., content, lessons, materials, etc.).
There is no sharing, competition, or overlap in any way. This is academia; I'm not sharing trade secrets!
I've read the code of conduct for both, and neither specifically say that a second job is prohibited. I have not been asked to sign a non-compete either.
As long as working both jobs doesn't negatively affect my availability or my work performance, do you think there is an issue?
I've had negative interactions with my first job's HR department, so I worry about opening a can of worms.
What do you all think?
