Cardio or strength training?

I've always just thought running was the best way to workout, but I've started to do more strength videos (they're tough!) and I like how I can feel myself building some muscle! Do you stick to cardio or are you more into strength training exercises? Or both?

I love to workout and get this question so often from friends. I always recommend a combination of both depending on your goals. Cardio doesn't necessarily have to be running though, you can do HIIT strength training. HIIT is a personal favorite for me because you burn fat and build muscle in a short amount of time. But regardless of your goals, your best results come from what you're eating and drinking.

I love HIIT - although I always feel like I need to be really prepared and motivated before I do any HIIT workout.

I used to be all about cardio but now that I've looked into more WFH workouts, I've ordered weights and have really been working on my strength. I feel so good about it!

Mix it up. I was told by a nutritionist that I may lose weight with cardio but my shape will never change without doing strength.

Mix it up. You need both a healthy heart and lungs and a strong body/core. :)

I do strength training 3x per and cardio 2x per week. Cardio for my heart - strength training to keep lean muscle mass and morning yoga everyday to maintain balance. I then take the weekend off - only walking/playing with the dogs. Sometimes I have to take a midweek break but, that's because of my MS.

I saw best results at first when I was just running, but long-term I think it's best to do both. Running too much puts you at risk for injury, so be careful and try to switch it up when you can.

Thank you! Makes a lot of sense and I definitely want to avoid injury.

I am mainly Cardio (spin classes on Peloton) and then sprinkle in Strength for a little variety as well.

Both for me. Kickboxing and extreme workout for cardio; yesterday I did a PopSugar class with trainer Jeanette Jenkins (via YouTube) and let me you...ooh, the muscles in my stomach were working! Strength training workouts that I do is Pilates core and it did wonders for my legs!

Love these suggestions! Thank you Deb and Ruth. I've heard good things about both Peloton and PopSugar - in that they really work your muscles!!
