Middle manager

I wouldn't want to work for a company that starts our relationship with lies, and I don't want to start a relationship with a new employee built on them, either. There's a salary range that includes experience. There is no excuse for not sending letters/emails to applicants to let them know the job was filled. I don't tell people I will keep their application, but if I interview someone who has promise but needs more experience, I encourage them to keep watching for opportunities with our company. And I do keep their information available in case something opens so we can talk again.

It is just common courtesy. Some form of communication should be given to the applicant. Understanding, if there are over 100 applicants, an email response is perfectly adequate.

I think Kathy is spot on. When an entry level position draws 100+ applicants, it's tough to commit to updating the entire applicant pool. But those that participated in one or more interviews should know the outcome of those efforts.

I feel as more hiring processes go virtual, ghosting is continuing to rise (just like the waste-of-time recruiter emails I get saying "You're a great match!" for a position that isn't even related to what I do). I hear the same excuse over: we are managing so many candidates, we're overwhelmed! I feel this is a decency thing and is up to each individual to "do the right thing."

In some cases, where there are dozens even hundreds of applicants, it's nearly impossible to follow up with each; however, email makes that a little easier to do. Certainly, every applicant that was granted an interview deserves closure and we should make every effort to thank them for their time and encourage them in their search.

This is really great info to read since I have to admit I have been guilty of not letting an applicant know they didn't get the job. I just get busy and forget, but also in my industry follow-up is key so the people who know to follow up and check in on the status of their application/the role always get a response/feedback.

I’m going through that now, I applied for a job got two interviews once the job did a reference check I never received a call back from the employer or any kind of communication. This company I’m working for been going around ruining my reputation because they tried to get me to commit fraud and I turn them into the State. Now they following me everywhere I go and when I leave out places they call them and tell them a bunch of negative stuff about me. I don’t know what to do. Telling people when I apply for jobs a bunch of negative stuff , I over heard the Human Resource person at a job I applied for talking to the person I interviewed with confirm this. Any suggestions on this.

I most definitely agree. It's frustrating to the applicants if they hear nothing from the interview. During my search in 2014, I would usually receive an email stating I didn't get the job. It's better than waiting.
