Getting that Gig!

Even though you might be ready to take the next step in your career, is your resume ready for that next-level position? Submitting a bland, non-focused resume with boring content will do nothing but get you taken off the “call" list. Writing your resume is more about creating a document that tells the complete story of who you are, what you have achieved, how you achieved it, and the value you will provide at the next level…in a creative way. Here are (5) quick tips to getting yourself to the next level: Formatting - Use a clean, business style font. If someone needs to work too hard to read your resume, they won't. Summary - Write a keyword rich summary that communicates what you have done in your career. Achievements - Include your "career highlights" in it's own section. *When possible, using numbers / percentages make the strongest impact. Keep it concise - With many years of experience behind you, you want to keep the focus on the present. It's not necessary to go back further than 10-15 years on your resume. Education - keep it at the end of your resume and remove the years (unless you're a recent grad). Include certifications, licenses or any accreditation relevant to your industry. If you're a jobseeker, have you looked at your resume recently to see where you may be able to clean it up?

Great points! Spruce up LinkedIn too - it is the gateway for even being asked for a resume in many cases.
